Services

Madraigos clinical services include a wide range of therapeutic intervention and prevention programs to help adolescents gain greater knowledge about themselves, grow to overcome their challenges and reach their potential. Professional development and individualized consultations to local schools helps equip teachers and administrators to proactively identify problems facing students and assist in finding solutions.

The Madraigos clinical staff combines broad knowledge and experience with overarching compassion and sensitivity, to provide the community with an invaluable resource.

Counseling Center

The Counseling Center provides mental health care to adolescents that is unlike any other mental health provider in the city. At the Counseling Center, a client’s frumkeit is never an obstacle to treatment, as he or she will receive care from a clinician who is culturally sensitive and attentive to the unique needs of frum, Jewish adolescents. Culturally appropriate therapy provided by a qualified, licensed mental health professional can be costly and is often not covered by insurance. At our Counseling Center, we provide a sliding scale option, to make therapy affordable to every adolescent in the Jewish community who needs it.

24 Hour Support Hotline (773-478-6006)

A crisis can arise at anytime. Every hour of every day there is a clinical social worker ready to answer the call of anyone in urgent need of emotional support. This critical resource saves lives and improves lives. All calls are completely confidential and callers can be sure that their issue is being handled with the utmost sensitivity and professionalism.

Barry & Harriet Ray Family Foundation Steps to Healthy Living Curriculum

Today’s Jewish parents find themselves with less and less time and with a more and more challenging world in which to raise a family. More than ever, children need a solid set of skills to prepare them to be emotionally healthy and confident Jewish adults.

The Madraigos Midwest Steps to Healthy Living Initiative, is a one-of-a-kind program that teaches these life skills to 5th-12th graders in the local day schools. Specially trained teachers work from a 2,500 page, 30 week curriculum developed by Project SAFE, teaching age appropriate topics such as Conflict Resolution, Substance Abuse, Communication Skills, Peer Pressure Reversal Skills, Healthy Decision Making, Internet Safety, Body Image, Bullying Prevention, and more. “Steps” reaches 1,200 Jewish students yearly in over 11 different Jewish day schools throughout the Chicagoland area.

Professional Development

Teachers, principals, rabbis, and other community leaders are often the first line of defense in identifying and combating social and emotional weaknesses. Madraigos partners with local schools to provide guidance and resources to administration and faculty on best practices in a variety of areas facing educators today. Community leaders, such as rabbis and organizational heads, receive training and guidance appropriate for their constituencies. Topics include: identifying substance abuse, promoting social/emotional literacy, legal aspects of mandated reporting and more. Additionally, school faculty can request targeted consultations at anytime to address acute issues that students may be experiencing.

Madraigos Youth Programs are designed to support and uplift teens and pre-teens through a variety of engaging activities. When children feel productive and energized they are motivated to act in a healthy way. These programs, from fitness related activities to trips to stimulating discussions, foster proper self-image and appropriate societal outlook in a safe and nurturing environment. In addition to their intrinsic social and emotional benefits, these programs are venues for participants to gain advice and encouragement from staff and, in some case, a portal to targeted mental/emotional services offered by the Madraigos clinical office.

The Lounge

Madraigos Midwest’s unique drop-in center, the Lounge, provides teens with a safe, fun and nurturing environment, under the supervision and guidance of Madraigos staff and social work interns. The Lounge is a destination for teens to come play, talk, eat and “chill” in a relaxed and non-judgmental atmosphere. Keeping teens off the streets and away from harmful activities is the main purpose of the Lounge, but it’s not the only benefit. Oftentimes, due to the warmth and acceptance they feel at the Lounge, participants will let down their guard and confide in Madraigos staff, leading them to getting the help they need. In short: the Lounge is a place where teens can be themselves and express themselves.

Big Sibling Program

Research has shown that a positive relationship between a child and an older mentor or “big sibling” has a direct and measurable impact on the child’s life. Greater confidence in their school work, improved relationships with their family and other social advantages are some of the benefits of the Big/Little Sibling relationship*. The Madraigos Midwest Big Sibling program is made available to youth that would benefit from the companionship and added encouragement of a role model. Our clinical staff interviews and trains all the Big Sibling volunteers and, after setting them up with their Little Sibling, supervises them on an ongoing basis, both individually and in group settings.

Sports Leagues

Throughout the year Madraigos programs provide healthy outlets and satisfying enrichment for teens, after school and on weekends. The Madraigos Basketball League is designed to occupy boys with an invigorating and competitive sport activity. The girls’ league (WMBL) also gets women from the community involved, creating a positive energy and team-building dynamic that benefits the teens and women alike.

Summer Program

For teens the summer is a particularly challenging time. With much free time on their hands and few structured activities to occupy them, teens can drift into counterproductive and sometimes risky behaviors. Our separate gender summer program is designed to provide teens with healthy and stimulating activities to fill their time in safe, fun, growth-oriented ways.

Raising a child is a sacred task and an awesome responsibility. Parenting can be one of the most rewarding roles in adult life and, at times, present the most heartbreaking of challenges. While there is no “instruction manual” for our children, our Parent Support Center seeks to provide a complete resource for parents in areas of their children’s mental, emotional and social development and stability. Whether for a family in the throes of a crisis in desperate need of help or for parents looking to proactively equip themselves with knowledge and strategies – Madraigos stands ready to provide support and guidance.

Parent Support Group

When a child is engaged in risky behavior, the worry and heartache of the parents is tremendous. Additionally, they are often contending with emotions such as their own guilt and anxiety. The turmoil in their household can negatively affect the relationship between spouses and between them and their other children. The Parent Support Group allows these parents to share with others going through similar experiences and recognize that they are not alone. The group is a non-judgmental “community” of peers. The participants share ideas and strategies with each other and, through their mutual support, they share hope

Individualized Guidance

Not every parenting challenge is a “crisis”, but oftentimes parents would like advice as to how to deal with a specific circumstance or incident in their child’s life. Parenting books and other resources abound, but there is no substitute for the individualized guidance of an experienced professional who keenly understands the situation. Our devoted and expert staff stands ready to counsel parents – over the phone or in person – about any issue confronting their family and help them find appropriate strategies and sustainable solutions.

Community Lectures and Events

Broad awareness and education for parents in our community is key to a healthy environment in which to raise emotionally strong and spiritually connected children. As our society changes ever more quickly, parents need to stay abreast of cultural developments and challenges that face our youth. Madraigos arranges for renowned and expert guest lecturers to present on a host of topics relevant to all parents in the community. These presentations are geared to educate, motivate and, ultimately, to empower parents to best support and facilitate their family’s growth.

Parenting Workshops

Parenting workshops provide knowledge and parenting strategies in a fully interactive format. Madraigos-trained facilitators lead small groups of parents in a series of far-reaching topics and discussions. Subjects such as discipline, instilling self-esteem, managing sibling rivalry, social development, healthy boundaries and many other crucial subjects are presented and explored in a comprehensive and practical way. Challenges of each age and developmental stage are addressed: from the tantrums of young children to the unpredictability of adolescents to the emotional complexities of emerging adults. These workshops are meticulously designed to teach best practices and to facilitate attentive and deliberate parenting.
